Local Families Mourn BU Students Killed In New Zealand Crash
HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBS) — The parents of a Boston University student killed in a collision in New Zealand were grieving Sunday, along with the families of two other BU students, one of whom had lived in Woodland Hills.
Austin Brashears, 21, of Huntington Beach; Roch Jauberty, 21, formerly of Woodland Hills; and Daniela Lekhno, 20, of Manalapan, N.J. were killed Saturday in a collision while en route to a popular destination where the "Lord of the Rings" movies were filmed.
The students were visiting New Zealand as part of an exchange program and were traveling in a convoy of vehicles when one of the drivers lost control and crashed.
The accident happened Saturday at about 7:30 a.m. New Zealand time, KNX 1070's Vytas Safroncikas reported.

Jauberty's parents now live in Paris. He identified himself on Facebook as a former Woodland Hills resident.

As many as five other students were hospitalized. Crisis counselors from BU went to New Zealand to comfort the other students and help make travel and funeral arrangements.
No local services have been announced.
