Bomb Squad Investigates Suspicious Package Found At USC
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad investigated a suspicious package reported at USC Sunday afternoon, police said.
The package was reported on the campus about 3:30 p.m., LAPD Officer Cleon Joseph said.
Joseph said he did not know the location where the package was reported or if evacuations were ordered.
LAPD described the suspicious package as a "brown bag."
USC's student newspaper, The Daily Trojan, reports the package was found on the grass between Birnkrant and North Residential College. Students were told to stay clear of the area.
(UPDATE 9 p.m. Sunday) The package turned out to be rolled up newspapers inside a bag that was taped shut. The package was deemed harmless after being X-rayed by the bomb squad.
