Fire Station In Van Nuys Evacuated After Explosives Brought In
VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — An LA city fire station was evacuated after someone brought explosive materials to the facility about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Police surrounded the station in the 14400 block of Sylvan Street, near the Van Nuys civic center, and the bomb squad has been called in, Sky2's Derek Bell reported.
Bell said the person who brought in the explosives has been taken into custody and that authorities apparently had placed the explosives in a containment vehicle.
The Fire Department, in a statement, described the material as a "small quantity of possible explosive material" that was taken to Fire Station 39 by a "concerned member of community."
Two businesses adjacent to the fire station were evacuated, and pedestrians cleared as part of the 300-foot area that had been cordoned off, the department said. There was no fire and no injuries were reported, the department said.
