Body Found In San Bernardino Mountains Could Be Missing Hiker

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — The body of a female has been found in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Officials said an autopsy would confirm if the body belonged to Karen Dalman, a 59-year-old hiker who was reported missing on Thursday May 16.

Dalman was on a Crystal Mountain day hike with a friend and they got separated on Tuesday when he went to chase after his dog. After two days of walking, her friend -- 56-year-old Bruce Jackson -- found his way back to his car and immediately reported Dalman missing.  A search and rescue operation began had been ongoing since Thursday morning.

Her son, Dan Neilsen, joined the search Friday telling KCAL9, "My mother doesn't hike. I'll tell you that right now."

A team of ground search members located the body of a deceased female Saturday in the area approximately one mile from where the search began.  It is in a remote area, at mid-elevation in a natural drainage, according to officials.

Big Bear Station personnel, along with the Coroner are enroute to the location to conduct an investigation.

No additional information is available at this time.  Updates will be released as new information becomes available.
