Body Found In Burning Car On Interstate 10 On-Ramp In Pomona
POMONA (CBS) — Authorities are investigating after a body was found in a burning car on an Interstate 10 on-ramp in Pomona.
Crime scene detectives worked through the night taking pictures of car, which was intentionally set on fire.
Pomona police say the body inside the vehicle, which was blocking the South Campus Drive on-ramp to the eastbound 10 freeway, was burned beyond recognition.
Nearby residents tried to break the car's windows when the fire started at 10 p.m. Thursday, but it quickly became too intense.
Authorities say it's not clear whether the victim actually died in the car.
"They're calling it suspicious for now because there's no traffic collision damage to the vehicle at all, so we don't know if it happened from inside or it was foul play," Officer Edmund Zorrilla told CBS2. "We have to wait for the coroner to do his investigation, which he's doing now, and for arson to do the investigation."
The on-ramp is expected to be closed throughout the morning.
