Starting Monday through Sept. 19, Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills will publicly display the Hope collection, which includes some 689 lots with memorabilia from Hope's six decades in entertainment, including Vaudeville, film, stage performances, television specials and entertaining the troops for the USO.
Items up for auction include a photograph inscribed to Hope by President John F. Kennedy, Hope's personal golf cart, golf putters, a Bob Hope People's Choice award, a George I bureau cabinet, Turkish carpets, and a Red Skelton clown painting.
Martin Nolan, Executive Director for Julien's, said proceeds from the sale will go to fund charitable causes that were close to the couple's hearts.
"Bob, obviously, was a huge USO person and so part of the money will go to benefiting our veterans in need, and also feeding the hungry, which was something that was very important to Dolores Hope," Nolan said.
While the official auction is scheduled for Sept. 20-21, online bidding for the auction is already underway. The auction overall is projected to bring in $500,000 or more.
