Bloomington Father Of 3 Killed In Hit-And-Run While Taking Out Trash

BLOOMINGTON (CBSLA.com) — Just days before Thanksgiving, a woman is grieving the sudden loss of her husband, the father of her three children.

"He took my baby's dad away. He took my husband away. He took our provider," Rosario Rodriguez said tearfully.

Lorenzo Rodriguez, 42, was killed Sunday when he was hit by a car while taking out the trash. The driver did not stop.

"He just took off. Just hit him and took off," Rodriguez said.

The crash happened in front of the Rodriguezes' home in Bloomington, along Locust Avenue. Rodriguez's son, Arturo, was filling out college applications and preparing dinner.

"While I was in the kitchen doing dishes, my sister heard a noise," he said.

They found Lorenzo Rodriguez's body in front of their home. It's not clear if Rodriguez was in the street or on the curb when he was struck by the car.

The death of Rodriguez is another devastating blow to the family, which is trying to recover from bankruptcy.

Authorities say they have no leads in the fatal hit-and-run crash, but a witness reported seeing a dark-colored, raised pickup truck leaving the scene.
