Blood In Short Supply In Santa Clarita Valley
SANTA CLARITA (CBS) — There is a critical blood supply shortage in the Santa Clarita Valley, according to the Red Cross.
Last year, nearly 16,000 pints of blood were collected, but 17,000 pints were distributed locally. Part of the problem is timing. During the summer, people go on vacation and school blood drives stop. Also, there's no full-time blood donation center in the Santa Clarita Valley.
The Red Cross center in Valencia will be holding a blood drive July 18 and 19 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 23838 Valencia Boulevard.
Donors should be healthy, at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and answer a health questionnaire on-site.
Providence Health & Services on 26357 McBean Parkway in Santa Clarita will host a blood drive July 21 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
