Crews Reach 50 Percent Containment Of Mandeville Canyon Fire

SEPULVEDA PASS (CBS) — Fresh firefighters were deployed Tuesday to fight a fire that has scorched more than 10 acres of brush near Encino.

Two fires in the Sepulveda Pass kept crews busy Monday as one blaze along the 405 Freeway kept traffic at a standstill and a larger brush fire threatened homes in Brentwood, officials reported.

The fire in Brentwood started at approximately 4 p.m. in the 3600 block of North Mandeville Canyon Road and was carried up towards Mulholland Drive by southwest winds, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

As of Tuesday morning, the LAFD said they have contained 50 percent of the blaze, which had spread to more than 10 acres in Brentwood.

A second brush fire ignited shortly before 4 p.m. Monday along the guard rail near the freeway sign for Getty Center Drive, the LAFD reported.

The fire was put out within 15 minutes but not before slowing holiday traffic to a standstill on the southbound side of the freeway.

Two lanes of the freeway had been closed to accommodate a fire engine.

No injuries or structural damage was reported in either of the two fires.
