'Black In America' Rapper Identified As Victim In Weekend's Fatal PCH Crash
MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — Authorities have identified the man killed in a weekend car crash in Malibu as rapper MC Supreme.
The rapper, whose real name is Dewayne Coleman, was best known for his 1990 single "Black in America."
The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office confirms he died Saturday when a GMC pick-up truck slammed into Coleman's car parked on Pacific Coast Highway at Corral Canyon.
A woman passenger was also injured in the crash. Her identity was not released.
The driver of the truck was identified as Philip Thomas Torres II, 33, of Oxnard. He was arrested on DUI charges.
Actor and Malibu resident Rob Lowe posted about crash on Twitter, placing some of the blame on authorities. He linked to a Malibu Patch article that stated this was the fourth major wreck on this stretch of PCH in the past month.
Lowe's sister-in-law, Kim Lowe, tweeted that something needs to be done to make the roadway safer.
Two other collisions happened Sunday on PCH.
The unrelated accidents occurred within minutes – and within 100 yards – of each other.
A solo motorcycle accident occurred at Topanga Canyon and PCH.
The second accident involved a bicyclist hit by a vehicle.
Both patients were treated on scene and then airlifted to a hospital.
