Black Friday, Cyber Monday...Now There's 'Giving Tuesday'
HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Following a day of giving thanks and two days of spending money, there's now a national movement dedicated to donating.
"Giving Tuesday" is a new holiday trend, where hundreds of businesses, charities, families and even individuals will be giving back.
Couture Lounge in Hollywood will donate their venue, host a fashion show and help raise money for the non-profit organization Peta.
I thought it'd be really great to raise awareness. A lot of people wear fur, and there's a lot of stuff going on in animal cruelty, so I thought it would be a good time to bring about more knowledge of it," June Johnson from Supernova Public Relations said.
The Giving Tuesday website provides information about who will be participating and ideas of ways to give back.
"We're asking you to go out and give back in a way that's meaningful to you," COO of Mashable, Sharon Feder, said in a YouTube video. "Grab a piece of paper and write out 'I'm giving to [who you're giving to]' with the hashtag 'Giving Tuesday'. Write it down and share it out to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or your community."
"We can't forget the message of the season is to really give back to the community and help people," Johnson said.
