Billingsley, Furcal Lead Dodgers Past Padres 1-0
(CBS) -- The streaky Chad Billingsley continued his impressive Summer, throwing eight shutout innings, and Javy Guerra wiggled out of a bases loaded jam with nobody out in the ninth inning to lead the Dodgers to a 1-0 win on Friday night.
Cameron Maybin led off the ninth with a double and reached third with nobody out after Guerra hit back-to-back Padres.
Then Guerra reached back and struck out Kyle Phillips and Will Venable, before Jason Bartlett flied out to Centerfield, giving the Dodgers their first save since June 19th.
Despite a season-high five walks, Billingsley (8-7) held the Padres to just four hits and has now allowed just four runs in his last 27 1/3 innings.
Mat Latos (5-10) matched Billingsley pitch-for-pitch until the eighth inning, when the Dodgers finally broke through.
AJ Ellis started the rally with a single, pinch-runner Trent Oletjen took second base on Jamey Carroll's sacrifice bunt, Oletjen then advanced to third base on former Padre Tony Gwynn Jr.'s single to RF and then came home on the single go-ahead single by Rafael Furcal.
The announced attendance on fireworks night of 38,529, saw the Dodger pitching extend their streak to 18 consecutive scoreless innings.
