Big Rig Jackknifes After Colliding With Pickup On 710 Freeway In Vernon
VERNON (CBSLA.com) — A SigAlert was issued early Tuesday morning on the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway after a big rig collided with a stalled pickup truck, the California Highway Patrol said.
The accident happened just before 2:30 a.m. near the Atlantic Avenue off-ramp, officials said.
The big rig tried to swerve to avoid hitting the stalled truck and ended up jackknifed over the side of the freeway, the CHP said.
The big rig was cleared from the scene just before 5:30 a.m.
The accident did cause a fuel spill, reducing the 710 Freeway to two lanes and causing a backup that stretched at least four miles.
The driver of the pickup truck was injured in the accident, the CHP said.
The CHP fully reopened the 710 Freeway around 6:45 a.m.
