Big Rig Driver Killed In Fiery Crash On 10 Freeway In Pomona
POMONA (CBS) — A truck driver was killed Thursday when his big rig burst into flames after colliding with another large truck that was stopped on the side of the San Bernardino Freeway.
The CHP says one of the big rigs was traveling eastbound on the 10 freeway just after 2 p.m. when it clipped the other truck, which was stopped on the shoulder near Fairplex Drive.
The driver lost control of the rig, which crashed into the shoulder wall and burst into flames, according to CHP officer Christian Cracraft.
The driver, who died at the scene, was not immediately identified.
No other injuries were reported.
The collision caused about 1,000 gallons of fuel to spill onto the freeway, closing three eastbound lanes.
Fire officials initially reported there was another vehicle trapped under one of the trucks, but Cracraft said only the two trucks were involved.
