Bicyclist Suffers Broken Shoulder, Ribs After Alleged Attack By Two Women

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — A bicyclist has suffered a broken shoulder and three broken ribs after allegedly being attacked and knocked off his bike by two women.

Jack Bornoff was riding his bicycle in Lake Balboa Park just after 11 a.m. when he says he came upon two female pedestrians, walking the same direction.

"My last memory was total awareness that 'There's a hand on my thigh,'" Bornoff said.

Bornoff says he slowed down and tried to pass them on the left, when he noticed a hand come over and hit him on his thigh, pushing him off his bike.

"For the life of me, I can't imagine what possibly was in her mind," Bornoff said. "I wasn't swerving or threatening."

Other people who frequent the specific path where Bornoff was attacked, which is not labeled as bike or pedestrian, say they are not surprised by the event.

"The problem is that you have walkers, joggers conflicting with people on bicycles," park user Roberta Gold said. "Little kids on scooters, babies in strollers, everybody trying to occupy the same pathway."

While the park has designated, separate trails for bicyclists and pedestrians, Bornoff says he is hoping the city puts lines down on the roads for pedestrian and bicyclist safety.

The incident is under investigation as battery.
