Best 2016 Veterans Day Events In Orange County

November 11 marks that annual holiday where Americans take the time to honor military veterans that have served our country. The remembrance began at the end of World War I and was declared an official holiday in 1919 by Woodrow Wilson. It is a time for everyone to reflect on the sacrifices of those that have served in the military.

Back again this year, the city of Orange honors current military and past veterans with a series of inspirational speeches and entertainment on a day dedicated to celebrate their sacrifice for the sake of the country. All military, family and friends, and the general public are encouraged to attend the event that will help put the sacrifices of our military in perspective for everyone. Parking is limited at this event and it is highly recommended to arrive earlier if special assistance is required at the corner of Atchison and Chapman.

The one-day veterans day event will again take place at the Orange County Fair Grounds and is a free event open to the public as a way to thank the veterans in the community for their service to the nation. But, this year, join in on Veterans Day for the dedication of Heroes Hall, the new veterans museum building at the OC Fair & Events Center. As the only Orange County museum dedicated to the sacrifices and stories of those who have served, the museum is one-of-a-kind and a must visit. There will be entertainment ranging from live music, art projects, military vehicles, collections for care packages to veterans and much more. As part of Orange County's "Honoring Our Heroes," the event taking place at the OC Fair Grounds will pay tribute to the men and women that have served our nation.

The Richard Nixon Library has a patriotic program this year to commemorate Veterans Day that will honor all veterans who have served this nation. On Veterans Day this year, from 10am to 3pm, guests are invited to this free event to experience keynote remarks by U.S. Rep. Ed Royce, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, as well as Navy Rear Admiral Yancy B. Lindsey Commander, Navy Region Southwest, and Marine Corps Major General (Ret.) Melvin Spiese, former Deputy Commanding General, I Marine Expeditionary Force. After that, experience the formal presentation of colors, as well as performances by the Villa Park High School Jazz Ensemble, Orange High School Concert Choir, Santa Ana College Singers and Orange Community Master Chorale. At 1pm, the Placentia Symphonic Band will perform a special concert in the East Room. The concert is free and open to the public, too! Make sure to register here though. Museum prices are not included.

Led by Anaheim Mayor Pro Tem Lucille Kring, the city's veterans day event will be held at the Anaheim Veterans Monument next to MUZEO, and will include patriotic music, a guest speaker and a special commemoration of the Marine Corps 241st birthday! The event begins at 11am.

On Veterans Day this year, visit the Brea War Memorial located at the Brea Civic and Cultural Center to honor those who have saved. From 10am to 10:45am, there will be a great ceremony. Throughout Brea's history, men and women of the community have served our country. After World War I, Brea was incporated, and since then Breans have served in peace and in war times to protect America. Visit the Monument of Remembrance, the black granite memorial which serves as a somber reminder of the sacrifices our military has made for our country. There is also the Walk of Honor, which shows the names of Breans who are inscribed in the monument.

This Veterans Day, remember those who have sacrificed their lives in honor of our great country. As part of the ceremony, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Jim Ghormley will be the Master of Ceremonies for the day. The Huntington Beach Veterans Day ceremony will be held at Huntington Beach Pier Plaza on November 11 at 11am.

Honor veterans this year at the 6th Annual National Veterans Day Run in Irvine, which will start and finish at Mike Ward Community Park in Irvine. The race offers a 11K, 5K or 1-mile walk to choose from, and they also have added a new flag brigade registration option this year. As of past years, this year they expect a big turnout of veterans and active-duty military members. The race will begin on November 19 at 03:11 PM.
