Best Things To Do This Weekend In LA - December 11

We live in one of the greatest cities in the world and the kind of rich diversity that resides here ensures that there will never be a shortage of cool things to do, see, and experience. If you were uncertain about what to do or where to go this weekend, here is a quick reference guide.

Friday, December 11

Strap On The Skates
The Holiday Ice Rink
Pershing Square
532 South Olive Street
Los Angeles, CA 90012
www.holidayicerinkdowntownla.com

Considering 80-degree weather has remained common for our recent forecast, the idea of getting in some ice skates and feeling the brisk air underneath sounds pretty refreshing. Under the downtown LA skyline, Pershing Square has it's own holiday ice rink that will remain open until mid-January. Offering 60-minute sessions for just $9 and accompanying skate rental for just an additional $4, a night on the ice will run you less than a visit to the movies. The rink even offers occasional Wednesday morning sessions in which all proceeds benefit Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.

Saturday, December 12

Explore Downtown LA
Little Tokyo Holiday Market Place
Japanese American National Museum
100 N Central Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90012
www.golittletokyo.com

A collective effort among the businesses that anchor Little Tokyo, the Holiday marketplace reiterates the cultural diversity of Los Angeles while spreading a little holiday cheer. Starting at the Japanese American National Museum, visitors can grab passports connecting them to the plaza's unique shops and eateries. Offering festive tangents like "Shogun" Santa, Little Tokyo Karaoke, a mobile mural workshop, and a selfie contest, the two-day event runs from 11:00am to 4:00pm and boasts a few dozen participating businesses. Between the gift ideas, live entertainment, and food galore, there may not be enough time to get everything in.

See "Die Hard" At Cinespia
Cinespia
The Million Dollar Theatre
307 S Broadway
Los Angeles, CA 90013
(213) 617-3600
www.cinespia.org

The Cinespia Holiday party will be especially raucous this year as the collective is hosting a screening of the action-packed classic "Die Hard" at one of the city's most historic theatres. The Million Dollar theatre, which opened in 1918, will be packed with eager moviegoers that will be able to hit the bar for cocktails, hit the photo booth for pictures, and maybe even shake a leg as the party continues with a DJ post flick. The night will be so much more than a night at the movies. In fact, Cinespia has built a reputation on making a night at the show an experience and this will certainly hit the mark. Be sure to wear your best ugly Christmas sweater.

Dance to Reggae
The Aggrolives
Saint Rocke
142 Pacific Coast Hwy
Hermosa Beach, CA 90254
(310) 372-0035
www.saintrocke.com

Purveyors of a fluid meld of traditional reggae and timeless soul music, The Aggrolites have coined their product "dirty reggae" for its ability to reach audiences from all types of backgrounds. From the punks in Doc Martens to the beach bums in flip-flops, when this LA-based outfit hits the stage, the party is guaranteed. Making a stop at what has become familiar stomping grounds for the band, Saint Rocke will be shoulder to shoulder this weekend as the Aggrolites lead the Saturday night festivities. The cherry on top is Aggrolites' closing rendition of The Beatles and Billy Preston's "Don't Let Me Down" with a reggae cadence. It is impossible to avoid singing along.

Celebrate Frank Sinatra's 100th
Saban Theatre
8440 Wilshire Boulevard
Beverly Hills, CA 90211
(323) 655-0111
www.sabantheatre.org

This weekend marks what would have been the 100th birthday for one of the world's most beloved entertainers, Frank Sinatra. While there will be events spanning the globe to mark the occasion, right here in LA the Saban Theatre will host the next in the Sinatra lineage with Frank Sinatra Jr. helming the hosting duties as he performs one of the most cherished musical catalogs of all-time. Crooning with a complete orchestra, the ode to the Chairman of the Board will no doubt be a grand spectacle a celebratory reminder that the classics never go out of style.
