In a city filled with burger and burrito joints, this back east Legend is finding its way around Tinseltown just fine. The Southland has finally embraced the cheesesteak nation with open arms. From Hermosa Beach to the San Fernando Valley, cheesesteak shops are popping up much to the liking of every Angeleno who dares answer the question, "Wit' or Wit' out onions?" - Terry Scannell

Ok, so you are fleeing your favorite Rodeo Drive boutique after spending way too much on a pair of sunglasses. Looking for something to nullify your buyer's remorse? You, my friend, are in luck because Capriotti's is just steps away. Capriotti's has been serving up Cheesesteaks and Hoagies since they first opened their doors in Wilmington, Delaware in 1976. As any good Philadelphian knows, "It's all about the bread." and Capriotti's uses their own secret recipe to serve up the perfect roll. Non-beefeaters shouldn't fret though, the chicken cheesesteak (feel free to add mushrooms) is sure to please.

Move over Jay Leno, there's a new star in Burbank. Although there are multiple locations in California and several other states, there is nothing chainy about this chain. These homegrown cheesesteaks are served on Amoroso rolls (did we mention it's all about the bread?) with your choice of American, provolone or cheese whiz (not a misprint), but the authenticity doesn't stop there. Enjoy a side of Wise Potato Chips, wash it down with a Frank's Black Cherry Wishniak soda, and top it of with a Jelly Krimpet Tastykake. Philly's Best is the real deal.

Big Mike's

No shirt. No shoes. No problem. Big Mike's in Hermosa Beach has been slinging cheesesteaks to beach bums and beach babes for over fifteen years. The peppers, both hot and sweet, complement the cheesesteak and roll with such precision you won't believe your taste buds. Portions, portions, portions. Big Mike's loads on the meat, so you may find yourself packing half to go. After all, you have to save room for their signature garlic cheese fries. If you live in Hermosa Beach, then congratulations. If you do not, then the drive to Big Mike's is worth it.

In the heart of Hollywood stands one of its most prized beacons. No, we're not talking about Mann's Chinese Theater. We are talking about Philly Steak Depot. No glitz, no glamour, just great cheesesteaks and quality service. The menu at Philly Steak Depot is enough to make your head spin. Cheesesteaks of every kind, hoagies, beer battered onion rings, you name they've got it. And if it's not on the menu, we're sure something can be worked out. Located in a strip mall (don't be scared), Philly Steak Depot would make any Philadelphian proud. Try the Supersteak and bring your appetite because the steaks are big and plenty.

Philly West

Cheesesteaks and beer! Need we say more? Philly West, appropriately located on the Westside, may be small in stature but is huge in authenticity. This pint-sized shack has long been considered "THE" authority on cheesesteaks in L.A., and for great reason. You can come check out your favorite sporting event or just sit back and enjoy one of the many microbrews on tap (they also have a full bar), and the price cannot be beat ($4.75 for cheesesteak. What?). I would love to take this moment to gush about their hoagies as well, but we will have to save that for a different list.
