Those who are environmentally conscious would be happy to know that the Malibu Easter Hoppening uses biodegradable eggs, so there's no need to worry if not all the eggs are found. Winners of the egg hunts win special prizes from gift cards and gift certificates to sports tickets. There is no fee to participate in the egg hunt, but do bring your A-game. Malibu Bluffs will also have bounce houses, face painting, arts and crafts activities, food trucks and even a photo booth (Easter bunny not included).

Another free Easter event open to the public is happening at Grand Hope Park with the 5th Annual Downtown Easter Fest. New City Church hosts the event and celebrates diversity in all its forms no matter the color of your skin, sexual orientation, educational background or how much money you make or don't make. More than 700 people attended the event last year. In addition to the traditional Easter egg hunt, there will also be a pie-eating contest, free drinks and popcorn and a dozen games to play.

The Kidspace Gardens Egg Hunt provides kids with a fun experience to learn about plants and wildlife. Kids will get to explore the five types of gardens as they search for candy-filled eggs. The event is for kids 10 and under with egg hunts starting at 11 a.m. for children 4 and under, 12:30 p.m. for 5 to 10-year-olds and 2 p.m. for all ages 10 and under. Online registration is required by March 30 and is $4 per child in addition to museum admission.

For an alternative to traditional egg hunts and bunny-related activities, the Aquarium of the Pacific offers an annual Easter brunch which includes admission to the Aquarium. Families can enjoy a delicious gourmet brunch, as well as a cookie decorating station for kids, without the hassle of setting up or cleaning up. Afterwards, the whole family can hunt for rabbitfish, see real shark eggs and meet more than 11,000 animals. The cost of the brunch plus admission is $38 for children under 12 and $48 for adults. RSVPs are strongly recommended as holiday events tend to be the busiest days at the Aquarium of the Pacific.
