Renovations and technological overhauls have brought new life to what was once a regular night out. If you have never been to one, this is your chance to encounter a completely American cultural treasure.

Montclair, CA 91763

www.missiontiki.comThe Mission Tiki Drive-In Theatre says Americana all the way, and that the drive-in movie experience is "more than apple pie." Its sense of history recalls the beginnings of the drive-in movie theater. During the 20th century's depression, New Jersey saw the first of what was to become an "unprecedented national phenomenon." Drive-ins merged two great passions: "the automobile and the movies." Opened in 1956, and after years of neglect, in 2006 a major renovation that left "no detail untouched" upgraded the drive-in for the 21st century. The "Tiki Theme" added an over-the-top 50s-ish feel. The concession stand now has traditional drive-in fare, and it also serves classic American and Mexican food. "In a culture where family time has become so rare and the price of movie tickets are breaking the budget," say the owners, "the time is right once more for the drive-in to satisfy the national thirst for affordable, good, quality family entertainment." The drive-in shows some of the latest films to hit the box-office, as well as older classics, too.
