While conventional wisdom would suggest that the weekend after Halloween would be slow, Los Angeles just doesn't do slow. There are plenty of great options for you to have a productive, invigorating weekend.

In the way of independent record labels, few have the kind of credibility of Los Angeles' very own Stones Throw. Founded by Peanut Butter Wolf, the catalog of releases in its 20 year span runs the gamut from soul, funk and hip hop. Celebrating their two decades of success, the label and a few of its more notable contributors will be hosting a free party at Sycamore Park. Featuring headlining performances from Common, Wolf himself, Dam-Funk, and the encyclopedic music knowledge of selector JRocc, this is a party that will showcase supreme taste in music. Naturally, there will be a host of food trucks on hand and to keep you fueled for some extended two-stepping. Whether familiar or not, Stones Throw is fundamentally LA and this Saturday is your chance to get better acquainted.

In terms of design and architecture, the spider web is one of nature's most impressive creatures. For the next few weeks, the Natural History Museum of LA is opening it's Spider Pavilion and showcasing the wonder of the web and the creatures that spin it. Don't worry, even if spiders make you squeamish, the different species are in enclosures that allow visitors to explore from a comfortable distance. Gallery interpreters will further explain the different methods and tactics spiders use to create their webs and help detail just how incredible the thread is. From the Golden Silk Spider to the Pink Toe Tarantula, get cozy with some of nature's best architects.
