Bernie Sanders To Accept Awards In Beverly Hills This Weekend
BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) – Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and his wife Jane are expected to comment on what's needed to move progress forward in the U.S. and California during a planned 20-minute award acceptance speech Saturday evening in Beverly Hills.
The couple will receive the Public Servants of the Year award from the nonprofit nonpartisan public interest group Consumer Watchdog at its 11th annual Rage for Justice Awards at the Beverly Wilshire.
Singer Jackson Browne will accept the Philip Burton Public Service Award and perform.
Attorney Christine Spagnoli will accept the Lifetime Legal Achievement Award for her role in protecting victims of defective cars and trucks, particularly during the General Motors bankruptcy.
Consumer Watchdog established the awards to recognize the heroes and heroines of the public interest movement in the U.S.
Sanders is also scheduled to speak at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills Sunday and receive the 2017 Abolition Award at Death Penalty Focus' 26th annual Awards Dinner at The Beverly Hilton.
