Bell Student Shot Near Campus

BELL (CBS) — Someone in a black truck shot a 16-year-old Bell High School student on Wednesday at a popular hamburger stand near the campus.

County paramedics sent to Boulevards Burgers at 4401 Florence Ave about 3:30 p.m. took the boy to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Matt Levesque said.

Bell police said the boy, a student at Bell High, was expected to survive his wound or wounds.

The burger stand is about a half-block from the school.

The attack was the third school-related shooting in the metro area in two days.

Yesterday, two students were shot in a classroom at Gardena High School when a 17-year-old boy slammed a backpack on a desk and a gun inside discharged.

About 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, a Los Angeles Unified School District police officer was shot outside El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills. Luckily, Officer Jeff Stenroos was wearing a bullet-resistant vest that stopped the 9 mm round that was fired at him by a suspicious character, described as a 40-something white man with long brown hair.
