Bell Police Officer Trapped In Vehicle After Patrol Cars Collide
BELL (CBS) — Two police officers racing to the scene of a crime collided their patrol cars, leaving one officer trapped in his vehicle and a neighborhood without power on Thanksgiving.
The patrol car was pinned between a telephone pole and the other patrol car for nearly 30 minutes before fire crews arrived to extract the officer at about 3 a.m. Thursday, an emergency dispatcher reported.
"There were on top of each other -- we don't know how they got that way," said a woman who lives close to where the crash occurred.
The officer was hospitalized and his condition was not given.
The officers were responding to a report of an auto theft when the collision occurred. Officials said they will launch an investigation into what caused the crash.
Power was restored later in the day to the neighorhood.
