Bear Crawls Into Duarte Home Through Kitchen Window, Seen Eating On Counter

DUARTE (CBSLA.com) — Sheriff's deputies were called out to a Duarte home after woman called 911 reporting a bear in her home, authorities said Wednesday.

The bear -- which officials say was a cub-- had crawled through an open window of a home in the 70 block of Crest View Court around 2 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

According to the resident, she found the animal sitting on her kitchen counter and locked herself into an upstairs bedroom to call authorities.

"Oh my God! A bear's in my house! Its in my house, its inside the house!" she told a 911 operator, KNX1070's Jon Baird reports.

The bear was still laying on a kitchen counter eating banana bread when Sheriff's deputies and Fish and Wildlife officials arrived, LASD Capt. Mike Parker said on Twitter.

When authorities made loud noises, the cub returned peacefully into the woods, officials said.

No damage was reported.
