Beach Communities Warned Of Possible Coastal Flooding From Tropical Storm
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Low-lying communities like Long Beach and Seal Beach could see some coastal flooding Monday due to Tropical Storm Simon off the Southland coast, authorities said.
Waves as high as 6 to 8 feet were expected to roll in during a high surf advisory issued by the National Weather Service, which will be in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Orange County residents could see some slightly weaker waves of about 4 to 6 feet in height with sets up to 10 feet, according to authorities. The biggest waves are expected north of Carlsbad.
The swell is out of the south, and water temperatures are about 72 degrees. Swimmers throughout the coastal areas are being warned that with the big waves come increased risks of rip currents.
By Monday morning, the storm's maximum sustained winds fell to near 45 mph and additional weakening is forecast, The Associated Press reports.
Simon is expected to produce 3-6 inches of rain across Baja California. Tomorrow that rainfall is expected to spread to parts of the U.S. southwest.
