Banned Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Has Prostate Cancer

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Donald Sterling, the Los Angeles Clippers owner who was banned from the NBA for making racist remarks, has prostate cancer, CBS News has learned Thursday.

The 80-year-old has reportedly been battling the disease for several years.

"That's the first I've ever heard of that," Clippers point guard Chris Paul said. "That's truly unfortunate."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver banned Sterling for life from any association with the Clippers and the league and fined him $2.5 million earlier this week after an audio clip of him stating racist comments was made public last weekend.

The NBA owners' advisory/finance committee held their first meeting Thursday to discuss the next steps in removing Sterling as the Clippers' owner. The 10-member committee is expected to meet again next week.

The Clippers will play Game 7 against the Golden State Warriors in Los Angeles Saturday.
