Bank Robbery Suspect Wife Of Former Desert Hot Springs Mayor

INDIO (CBS) — The 69-year-old suspect in two Bank of America bank robberies in Palm Springs turns out to be the wife of a former Desert Hot Springs mayor.

Carol Jean Bias pleaded not guilty Friday to robbing the Bank of America at 5601 E. Ramon Road on Feb. 3 and a Bank of America at 588 S. Palm Canyon Drive Wednesday.

Police say no weapon was used in either burglary.

Bias was arrested Wednesday afternoon, after witnesses saw a dye pack in a bag of money explode on her as she walked through the bank parking lot.

Bias was booked on two counts of burglary and two counts of robbery and is being held on $50,000 bail pending a court appearance scheduled for March 8.

Bias is the wife of former Desert Hot Springs Mayor Alex Bias, according to kesq.com.
