Baby Killed In Rollover Crash In Placentia
PLACENTIA (CBSLA.com) — A 7-month-old boy was killed Monday in a rollover crash in Placentia that also injured his parents and two siblings.
The crash involving a late-1990s Chevrolet Suburban carrying a family of five happened at about 10:10 a.m. in the 700 block of West Orangethorpe Avenue, Placentia police Lt. Eric Point said.
The driver of the red SUV apparently struck a curb and then slammed into a power pole before rolling onto its roof, Point said.
Police and firefighters managed to get everyone but the baby out of the vehicle, Point said. The boy was "crushed inside his car seat" and pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
The parents and their two children, a 3-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy, were taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in moderate condition, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.
The children's mother was reportedly behind the wheel of the SUV when it crashed.
Orangethorpe was closed between Placentia Avenue and the 55 Freeway in both directions as Edison officials worked to clear the area of the broken power pole and downed lines and police investigate the cause of the crash.
