Auto Club Of Southern California Looking For 300 New Hires
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Auto Club of Southern California is looking to hire 300 people all over the Southland.
The motor company, which employs 6,000 people, is in the market for travel, call center and insurance sales agents.
It also needs employees for its marketing, technology and legal departments.
Recruitment supervisor Ellecia Purvis said the company wants strong, service-oriented professionals.
"We're looking for people who have come out of previous call centers with strong customer service experience," she said.
Leah Woolfolk, a customer service agent, parlayed her retail experience into a position at AAA a year ago.
"I applied online, I got my call, I went on an interview, and that was pretty much it," she said.
Woolfolk maps out road trips, sells excursion tickets and handles DMV transactions for members.
She can even notarize a document, something she said she had never done before.
"I didn't know about notaries, I definitely didn't know about the DMV, but they train you for everything. That's the cool part, too," said Woolfolk.
Christina Estrella, who has been an emergency roadside service operator for four years, said a person doesn't need to be a mechanic to do her job.
"I virtually knew nothing about cars before I came here. If someone said, 'What kind of car?' I'd say, 'red, blue or green,'" she said.
As a mother, Estrella said she can relate to parents who call for help when they accidentally lock their keys, or even their kids, in the car.
"I keep them calm, tell them to stay calm, and the baby will stay calm, and we get service out to them right away," she said.
Travel agent Sunshine Quitaine, who was once a customer stuck on the side of the road, said the good service she got at AAA was the reason she wanted to be a part of the organization.
Quitaine began her career with the auto club 10 years ago as a roadside assistance operator.
She eventually found her true calling in another division of the company: planning honeymoons and dream vacations for members.
"That's another paradigm in someone's life that you get to be a part of and say, 'I'm your personal travel agent!' That's what I love. That totally makes my day," Quitaine said.
The Auto Club of Southern California has part-time and full-time positions available.
