Authorities Use Bean Bag Gun To Bring Reckless Driving Suspect Into Custody
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A police chase ended with a standoff when the reckless driving suspect refused to follow deputies' orders on the 101 Freeway Tuesday night.
Authorities used what appeared to be bean bag guns to subdue the suspect when he exited the silver car he was driving. While handcuffed, the man was combative with officers as they tried to hold him against a patrol car. At least four police officers stepped in to hold down the suspect and escort him into the squad car.
Officers began chasing the suspect on the 110 Freeway after they reportedly saw him drive recklessly.
The suspect refused to pull over for authorities and began to drive at speeds of more than 100 mph.
The driver was stopped after colliding with a silver Jaguar on the northbound 101 Freeway in Downtown Los Angeles.
The suspect refused to follow deputies' orders, triggering a standoff with CHP deputies.
The driver eventually exited the car, holding what appeared to be a beer bottle, and deputies shot him several times with bean bag guns.
Deputies handcuffed the suspect and took him into custody. At least four deputies stepped in to hold the suspect down as he continued to struggle with the officers.
Both sides of the 101 Freeway were temporarily closed at about 10:30 p.m. for the standoff, backing up traffic for miles.
