Will $50K Reward Solve Deadly 1989 Hit-And-Run?
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Authorities are hoping a $50,000 reward will help solve a 1989 deadly hit-and-run.
The victim was D'Ancee Gipson, a 3-year-old boy.
Today, volunteers handed out fliers in and around the intersection of Van Ness and Gage in South Los Angeles.
That's the same intersection where Gipson was killed in March 1989.
Officials say a female driver stopped, got out of her vehicle, saw she hit the boy and then got back into her car and fled.
City Council member Bernard C. Parks said, "I'm sure it's a horrible circumstance to live with ... and it's something that we'd ask them to consider taking accountability for their actions to bring this to justice."
The suspect would now be in her mid-50s, said authorities.
The case is being featured on an episode of "Crime Stoppers" later this month.
The program airs every Saturday on KCAL9 at 11:30 p.m.
