At Least 3 Pedestrians Run Over By Vehicle Near Pride Festival

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com)  —    Authorities said "several" pedestrians were apparently mowed down by a car in West Hollywood.

Officials do not believe the driver targeted the pedestrians. The accident occurred near the Pride Festival that celebrates the LGBTQ community.

It was also unclear if alcohol played a factor in the crash.

Officials said there were at least three people injured, some critically.

The accident happened just after 10 p.m. at La Peer and Santa Monica Boulevard.

CBS 2's Jeff Nguyen was able to obtain an exclusive with  one of the passengers in the car.

She said the driver sped off and just lost control of the vehicle.

"So we were exiting the parking lot and he [the driver] basically hit a pedestrian. He just lost control. It just happened very fast," she said. "Everybody was just listening to music. Everything was happening very fast."

Nguyen asked the passenger if the crack in the windshield was caused by a pedestrian hitting it.

She replied, "I believe so. Yes."

The passenger believed the driver hit just one pedestrian. She said "the driver...everybody was doing a little drinking."

If his drinking was a possible factor, she said, "It could [have been.}"

The Sheriff's department confirmed to Nguyen that three people were transported to a hospital. All are expected to be okay.

The driver was taken into custody. Prior to this arrest, officials said no one was arrested in relation to Pride events all weekend.
