ASU Star Running Back Shot In Riverside
RIVERSIDE (CBS) -- Arizona State RB DeAntre Lewis is expected to be released from a local hospital on Monday after being shot by a stray bullet over the weekend while in Riverside visiting his family.
According to a spokesman at ASU, " Lewis was at a relative's residence in Riverside on Saturday, celebrating the birth of his sister's baby. While there, he was hit with a stray bullet from elsewhere in the neighborhood. He was taken to a local hospital, where the bullet was removed."
There was no muscle damage found but his availability for Spring Practice is still to be determined.
Dennis Erickson has the following statement:
"I have spoken to the family and they know they have the support of all Sun Devils everywhere. We are looking forward to a full recovery."
Playing as a true freshman last season, Lewis combined for over 900 yards and had 6 touchdowns. ASU is picked by many preseason magazines as the favorite to win the Pac-12 South division.
