Assault Suspect Dies After Fullerton Pursuit
FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — An assault suspect was killed Wednesday morning after he led authorities on a high-speed chase and crashed into a home.
A taxi driver contacted Fullerton police around 2:06 a.m. to report he had been assaulted by a customer after he dropped the man off in the city's downtown area, officials said.
The driver saw the suspect enter a silver vehicle and was able to provide that information to police, according to Sgt. Jeff Stuart.
When authorities attempted to contact the unidentified suspect, he fled from police, traveling westbound on Amerige Avenue at a high rate of speed.
The short pursuit ended near the intersection of Amerige and Roosevelt Avenue when he hit a palm tree, a parked car and then a house.
"The driver died at the scene," Sgt. Stuart said.
No other injuries were reported.
Police believe alcohol may have been a factor in the incident.
