Ashes Stolen In Sylmar Home Invasion Returned
SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — A Sylmar woman who issued a public plea for the return of her mother's ashes after they were stolen in a home invasion says they were returned to her on Monday.
Kelly Kamakura's home on Chesterwood St. was broken into on May 8. In addition to stealing purses, jewelery and cash, intruders took a box containing the ashes of Kamakura's late mother, Pauline Hicks.
Hicks passed away three years ago and was cremated. Her daughter told CBS2's Dave Lopez that she had a lot of memories of her mother in the home and that it was comforting to have her mother's ashes there after she passed away.
Kamakura issued a public plea for the return of the ashes, telling the intruders that they could leave them at a hospital, church, or grocery store.
On Monday, the box was returned to her driveway.
