Asbury Retiring As Pepperdine Hoops Coach

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) -- Tom Asbury is retiring as Pepperdine basketball coach, with his top assistant Marty Wilson set to take over the program.

The school announced the changes on Thursday. Wilson will be introduced as the Waves' next coach at a campus news conference on Friday.

Asbury first served as Pepperdine coach from 1989-94, and he was asked to return in February 2008 at a low point in the program. The Waves had 28 total wins since he came back, including 12 this season -- their most since 2004-05.

The 44-year-old Wilson played at Pepperdine, and spent six seasons as an assistant before leaving. He returned at the same time Asbury did, with the understanding that he would be the eventual successor.
