Artist Arrested For Vandalizing Torrance 'Chick-fil-A'
TORRANCE (CBSLA.com) — A local street artist has been arrested after he claimed responsibility for a "Tastes Like Hate" message painted on the side of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Torrance.
Manuel Castro was taken into custody Wednesday night on suspicion of vandalism, five days after he painted the graffiti on the restaurant.
Castro, a self-described gay artist, told the Huffington Post the graffiti was intended to look like the chain's "Eat More Chikin" ad campaign.
According to Castro's website, previous artistic endeavors include hanging ruby slippers over power lines throughout Los Angeles and installing simulated cocaine bags on telephone poles around major intersections.
Castro says he was standing up for human rights.
"It's paint on a wall. It got removed in less than an hour. It's not that much of a crime – it's a protest," Castro told the Huffington Post.
