Arson Investigators Probe Deadly South Los Angeles House Fire
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say one person has been killed in a house fire in South Los Angeles.
Firefighters were sent to battle the blaze Saturday evening at a home in the 300 block of East 106th Street about 10:40 p.m.
When they arrived on scene, crews were confronted with obvious flames.
"Firefighters made entry inside of the structure and found an unidentified male inside the structure. Brought him outside of the home and he was ultimately determined not to have survived the fire," said LAFD Arson Investigator David Liske.
Investigators tell CBS2's Joy Benedict that the man sustained extensive fire damage to his body, which would not be consistent with the amount of fire damage inside the home had the fire been accidental.
Regardless, authorities have not ruled out the possibility of an accidental fire but said that both the fire and death were being investigated as "suspicious."
An autopsy is expected to be conducted on the man, who was believed to be in his 20s. The man reportedly lived with his wife and two children inside the home, none of whom were present at the time.
Firefighters believe the blaze originated near the front of the home.
