Arrest Made In Connection With Canyon Country Hate Crime Stabbing
BELL (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Saturday said an arrest has been made in connection with a stabbing described as a hate crime in Canyon Country.
Deputies said in a statement that Omar Chaparro, who is also known as "Swifty," was arrested about 12:35 a.m. in the 6000 block of Gifford Place.
The 20-year-old Hispanic man is accused of stabbing another Hispanic man on July 19, after allegedly making several racial slurs toward that man's African-American friend.
Deputies said the man stepped in after the suspect advanced toward his friend. During the altercation, the victim was stabbed once in the side allegedly at the hands of Chapparo.
The stabbing occurred in the 14800 block of Jakes Way.
Chapparo allegedly fled the scene shortly after but was arrested at a home in the city of Bell on Saturday.
