Arrest Made In Connection With Armed Robberies That Forced School Lockdown

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Police today arrested a man suspected of robbing two people at gunpoint in Riverside, leading officials at a local high school to put the facility on lockdown.

Local law enforcement received a report of a hold-up on the 3000 block of Monroe Street at approximately 1 p.m. Police were speaking to the victim when another robbery was reported nearby.

The victim in the second report gave a similar description of a male whom police believe was involved in both robberies.

Riverside police Sgt. Julian Hutzler said the suspect was apprehended at approximately 2 p.m. near Arlington High School.

The school was put on lockdown as a result of the pursuit. Hawthorne Elementary is also believed to have been put on lockdown, Hutzler said.

The suspect was carrying items police believe were stolen.

The man had not been identified by police at press time.
