Arrest Made In Attempted Abduction Of Boy In East LA
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An arrest has been made in the attempted abduction of a 5-year-old boy in East Los Angeles, authorities have announced.
A news release by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the suspect was taken into custody after the child and his uncle spotted him near the intersection of City Terrace and Hazard Avenue on Saturday morning. He was identified as an older Hispanic man.
The boy, initially believed to be 6, was approached by a man pushing a shopping cart about 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 1400 block of Miller Avenue, the department statement said.
According to authorities, the man offered the boy candy and then grabbed his shirt.
The boy told Carter Evans, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, that the man attempted to put him in a bag.
The boy said he screamed and then ran away and told his grandmother. He also said he bit his attempted abductor.
Detectives with the East Los Angeles Station are handling the investigation, authorities added.
