Around The NFL: Vick Injured Again, Tom Brady's Streak Ends, Clay Matthews Could Miss Time

Injuries can decimate a team's season, and sometimes it only takes one to make the year a complete wash. The Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers were both dealt huge injury blows on Sunday, and then there was Tom Brady who saw a streak – that was over four years in the making – come to an end.
Michael Vick suffers hamstring injury – Still Philly's starter if he can play
The Philadelphia Eagles lost Michael Vick to another injury on Sunday, but he currently believes he will be able to play against the Buccaneers next week. Vick suffered a hamstring injury in the second quarter of the Eagles victory over the New York Giants on Sunday, and he was successfully replaced by Nick Foles.
Foles came in and threw two fourth quarter touchdowns to help secure the victory. Even with that success, Eagles coach Chip Kelly said that Vick would remain the team's starter if he was able to play.
The result of Vick's MRI should be available this week. Kelly did go on to say that it is still possible for Foles to win himself the starting job if Vick can't go or get the job done.
Tom Brady's touchdown-throwing streak comes up just short of Drew Brees' record
Tom Brady had thrown a touchdown pass in 52 consecutive games as he traveled with the New England Patriots to play the Cincinnati Bengals. Not only did the Bengals end Brady's streak, but they also dealt the Patriots their first loss of the season.
If Brady had thrown a touchdown against the Bengals and extended his streak to 53 games; he could have possibly tied Drew Brees' record next week against the Saints. That won't be an issue now though as the Bengals harassed Brady all day and kept him out of the end zone.
Brady may have seen his streak come to an end, but the bigger deal for the Patriots was that they were handed their first lost of the season. A bigger problem is that New England's offense looked almost anemic as they amassed only 238 yards, committed two turnovers, and saw Brady sacked four times.
Clay Matthews' status unknown as broken thumb could cause LB to have surgery
Green Bay's premiere linebacker Clay Matthews suffered a fractured thumb in Sunday's victory over the Detroit Lions. It isn't known at this time if he will need to have surgery or not, but if he does, he could end up missing several games.
The injury came about when Matthews sacked Detroit's Matthew Stafford on the final play of the third quarter. It was a great play that ended with a 12-yard loss for the Lions, but perhaps a bigger loss for the Packers. Matthews didn't play again in the game.
If he doesn't need surgery, Matthews could possibly play with a protective cast. More will be known on Monday once more tests are done and the team can determine if surgery is needed.
