Around The NFL: Manning Bowl III, Malcom Floyd Hospitalized
By Danny Cox
The second week of the 2013 NFL season brought just about everything that fans could ever want. There were numerous close games, some big time blowouts, and even a battle of brother vs. brother. Let's not forget one of the biggest first half performances by any quarterback in recent memory.
Manning Bowl III Brings Peyton's Record to 3-0 Against Eli
For a while, it appeared as if the third ever "Manning Bowl" was going to be one that went down to the wire. Little did anyone realize that a 17-16 game late in the third quarter would turn into a gigantic blowout for the Denver Broncos over the New York Giants.
Peyton Manning had another great day and brought his professional record against Eli Manning to 3-0 after a 41-23 demolishing of the Giants. Things seemed well under control and quite competitive, but then the Broncos just took over.
Thanks to Knowshon Moreno and Trindon Holliday, the Broncos were able to open it up and knock New York to 0-2 on the season. Maybe they just wanted to realize there were numerous other players taking part in this so-called "Manning Bowl."
Aaron Rodgers Torches the Redskins with 320 Yards in the First Half Alone
The Washington Redskins were hoping to compete this season, but their first two games show they may not be competitive at all. The first half against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday showed they can't even be competitive in the first two quarters of a game.
Aaron Rodgers went out and threw for 320 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions in the first half on Sunday. Yes, just the first half. He finished the day with a career high 480 yards and a 38-20 victory over Washington.
As for the Redskins? RG3 impressed a little bit more in the second half, but there is worry that he already isn't what he used to be.
Malcom Floyd OK, But Suffered Scary Neck Injury Against Eagles
San Diego Chargers wide receiver Malcom Floyd was carted off the field on Sunday on a stretcher with a neck injury, but was fortunate that his injuries weren't sever enough to make him stay over night and he got to fly back home with teammates that evening.
Floyd was hit hard during the third quarter by Eagles linebacker DeMeco Ryans and safety Nate Allen. Replays showed that Floyd's head and neck got pushed hard into his body and he immediately went to the ground. That was where he laid motionless for a while.
After being taken to the hospital, some tests were run and thankfully, Floyd was alright. The play was not dirty or intentional, just guys playing football. Luckily for Floyd, he'll be able to play again soon.
