Around The NFL: Dolphin Files Complaint, Jag Enters Rehab, Raider Injured
By Danny Cox
NFL fans often look at the league as a collection of players that are talented and fortunate enough to play the game they love for a living. It seems like an ideal set-up and one that would be a dream come true for anyone that loves the sport of football. The only problem is that there is an ugly side to professional sports as well, and it can shine a bad light on things.
Jonathan Martin contacts Dolphins regarding harassment
The situation between starting right tackle Jonathan Martin and the Miami Dolphins just got a lot uglier. What was originally looked at as just a prank gone too far has now seen Martin contact the team regarding allegations of harassment and player misconduct. The NFL has been asked to investigate the matter further.
Martin's representatives have contacted the team and specifically outlined areas of concern for the player.
"We have also reached out to the NFL and asked them to conduct an objective and thorough review. As an organization, we are committed to a culture of team-first accountability and respect for one another."
Reports have stated that Dolphins guard Richie Incognito is primarily to blame for Martin leaving the team. Incognito has said the reports are "slander" and "false speculation," and even said that ESPN was hiding behind cowardly sources.
Jacksonville wide receiver Justin Blackmon officially enters rehab
Justin Blackmon returned after a four-game suspension to show why he is a former first-round selection of the Jacksonville Jaguars, but a second violation of the league's substance abuse policy has him getting help. Blackmon has decided to enter a rehab facility after being suspended indefinitely on Friday.
Blackmon will be eligible for reinstatement prior to the beginning of next season.
The NFL Players Association has been aiming to get treatment for players rather than disciplining them, and the hope is that they can get as many players into rehab that need the help. Blackmon's suspension is just the latest chapter in a long line of troubles for the wide receiver, and hopes are that rehab will change things for him.
Terrelle Pryor leaves Oakland game with knee injury
Not only did the Oakland Raiders suffer a horrible loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday by the score of 49-20, but they watched as Nick Foles tied an NFL record with seven passing touchdowns in a single game. Still, none of that may hurt as much as quarterback Terrelle Pryor suffering a knee injury and being taken out of the game.
Pryor left the game halfway through the fourth quarter with what was simply called a "knee injury."
Undrafted rookie Matt McGloin came in to take over for him during the game, but it was already a lost cause. Pryor was having his knee evaluated and due to have more tests this week.
