Around The NFL: Danger And Threats Filling Up The League

In the world of professional football, there are always tempers that flare and things that make the game even better. Trash-talking is a huge part of the game, but when all is said and done, the majority of the players shake hands, pat one another on the back and give a hug or two in the spirit of good competition.
Sometimes though, the emotion and the passion go a little too far and it can lead to hitting below the belt, getting personal, or even making threats.
Pacman Jones allegedly threatens Jets wide receiver David Nelson
During Sunday's 49-7 blowout win over the New York Jets, Pacman Jones of the Cincinnati Bengals apparently threatened wide receiver David Nelson. The wide receiver wouldn't exactly say what Pacman said and believes it wasn't truly a threat on his safety, but has said that the media's interpretation was accurate.
"I wouldn't say it was a threat. I'm not going to say that he threatened me or anything like that," Nelson said on a conference call. "He did say some stuff on the field, but I wouldn't take it as a threat."
"I'm not going to get into specifics of exactly what he said. But I can confirm I've read a lot of reports that are true."
One report stated that Jones told Nelson that he was "going to find out where you live and come and get you." The two went back and forth all game and Jones was even said to have gotten into a verbal argument with Jets coach Rex Ryan.
Brandon Meriweather taunts Brandon Marshall and says he is going after the knees of players
Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather had his suspension lowered from two games to one for some big-time hits against the Chicago Bears. Members of the Bears, including Brandon Marshall, let their feelings be known about Meriweather and Marshall even believes that he should be removed from the game.
Meriweather decided to get personal and go after domestic abuse charges brought against Marshall from years ago. He also stated that he will now avoid the heads of players and go after their knees.
"I guess I just got to take people's knees out," Meriweather said Monday morning. "That's the only way. I would hate to end a guy's career over a rule, but I guess it's better other people than me getting suspended for longer."
"You just have to go low now, man," he added. "You've got to end people's careers. You got to tear people's ACLs and mess up people's knees. You can't hit them high anymore."
Raiders to deal internally with defensive coordinator's finger gestures aimed at officials
During Sunday's win against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the defensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders decided to publicly show what he thought of the officials. Jason Tarver flipped the middle finger on different occasions on Sunday and aimed it directly at NFL officials for a call.
A personal foul was called on Raiders cornerback Mike Jenkins for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell in the third quarter. Tarver has since apologized for what he did, and it made matters worse that the flag was picked up and no penalty ended up being called.
Mark Davis, owner of the Raiders, said does not condone what Tarver did and said that the matter is going to be dealt with internally.
