Around The NFL: Coaches Are The Talk Of The League
By Danny Cox
With the playoffs on the way, some teams are focusing on moving forward and doing what they can to keep marching toward the Super Bowl. Other teams are looking at which players, and possibly which coaches, won't be returning to their locker rooms in 2014. All in all, there are a lot of decisions to be made whether teams are playing well or lousy.
Saints looking at possible personnel changes after loss to Rams
The New Orleans Saints are in line to make the playoffs this year, but they are losing a lot of games they shouldn't and they're all coming on the road. This weekend's hard loss to the St. Louis Rams has the team thinking of making some personnel changes so that these road woes don't continue.
As of now, head coach Sean Payton has made no solid decisions but he has said that the team is "looking closely at every element" to determine what needs to be done. The two players on the biggest hot seat in New Orleans are that of kicker Garrett Hartley and left tackle Charles Brown.
Rex Ryan believes he is still right man for the job in Jets-land
The New York Jets still have an outside shot at making the playoffs, but their season has hardly been a success. Head coach Rex Ryan knows that to be true, but he still believes that he is the right man for the job and he truly wants to stay on in the position he currently holds.
Ryan said "of course, I believe it," when he was asked if he's the right man for the job, but winning only 12 of their last 33 games has many others thinking otherwise. The team is headed for their third straight non-playoff season, but Ryan believes the team is heading in the right direction and his leadership is the reason.
Mike Shanahan has no plans to resign and wants to return to Redskins next year
With quarterback Robert Griffin III on the bench for the rest of the season, head coach Mike Shanahan's job is in jeopardy as the team deals with their worst season in a while. Still, Shanahan has said that he has no intention of resigning during the current season, but it is not clear what will happen afterward.
Shanahan has also said that he would like to stay on as head coach of the Redskins, but he wants more control over the organization if he does.
Chip Kelly's name mentioned in college ranks as Texas' job opens
University of Texas head coach Mack Brown won't be in his position after 16 seasons with the school, and one former college coach is already being rumored as his replacement. Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has had his name mentioned lately even though he's just one season removed from the college ranks.
For now, Kelly says that the reports are "just speculation," and he wants to remain focused on the rest of the season and possibly the playoffs for the Eagles.
