Army Corps of Engineers releases map to track Phase 2 of wildfire recovery
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released an interactive map to help residents track Phase 2 of the wildfire debris removal.
"Transparency and timely information are critical as we work to safely and quickly remove wildfire debris," said Col. Eric Swenson, commander of the USACE Los Angeles Wildfires Recovery Field Office. "This new viewer gives residents a clear picture of where their property stands in the Phase 2 process, reinforcing our commitment to keeping the community informed every step of the way."
The map and accompanying dashboard provide residents with a color-coded system for displaying land to be cleaned up by the Corps of Engineers, property assigned to contractors, and completed work.
Following the disastrous Eaton and Palisades Fire, Los Angeles announced a two-phase recovery plan led by Chief Recovery Officer Steve Soboroff. Phase 1 started the overarching recovery process with a $100 million hazardous material cleanup, which involved more than 500 EPA personnel.
During Phase 1, residents could have prepared for the following step by opting for a free general debris cleanup from the Army Corps of Engineers or paying for a specialized contractor approved to remove the remaining rubble. The deadline to sign up for removal is March 31, 2025.
The Corps belives that the cleanup will be finished by January 2026.
