Armored Truck Driver Remains Hospitalized 1 Day After Wreck
BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBS) — An armored truck driver remained hospitalized with minor injuries Saturday, one day after his truck teetered off an East Los Angeles interchange bridge.
The wreck occurred about 3:41 p.m. Friday.
According to authorities, the driver of the truck – identified as a 56-year-old Downey man – swerved to avoid another motorist on the transition road.
The accident snarled rush hour traffic on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway and westbound San Bernardino (10) freeways.
All six lanes of traffic from the combined south 5 and west 10 freeway were diverted down a two-lane ramp onto the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway.
Also affected were both the 5 and 101 sections of the Santa Ana Freeway and east-west traffic on Seventh Street.
Paramedics rushed the driver to an area hospital. A guard in the back of the truck was not injured.
Meantime, CHP officers Saturday continued to look for the driver of the other vehicle.
