Police: Drill Team Rifle Prompts Lockdown At 2 Simi Valley Schools
SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A lockdown at two schools in Simi Valley was lifted after a report of a person armed with a long gun walking onto one of the campuses turned out to be someone carrying a drill team rifle.
Royal High School and Saint Rosa of Lima Catholic School, in the 1400 block of Royal Avenue, were locked down at about 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to Simi Valley police. The lockdown was lifted after noon, and none of the students were hurt.
Erringer Road at Crocker Street and Pride Street was closed to traffic while officers searched Royal High School, where the person was seen. Police said at about 12:15 p.m. that officers had completed a search of the campus and found nothing suspicious.
Police later said the long rifle reported was in fact a ceremonial drill rifle used by a drill team member and not an actual firearm.
